CRITICAL ISSUES LECTURE SERIES

The "CRITICAL ISSUES Lecture Series," sponsored by IAAS, has been central to the success of both the academic and outreach programs. These symposia present distinguished guest lecturers who share their perspectives, research, and scholarship on African-American and Black world topics with the University and the larger community.

Topics have included among others:

"What Does It Mean to be Black in America?"
"The State of Black America: 25 Years after the Civil Rights Act."
"The Black Male: An Endangered Species?"
"Rethinking the American Race Problem."

"The Black Power Movement in Historical Perspective: Dialogs on Race in American Society"

Speakers have included well known academicians, civil rights activitis, scholars such as William Julius Wilson, Margaret Washington, Wilson J. Moses, Julian Bond, Judge Constance Baker Motley, Cornel West, Benjamin DeMott, Mrylie Evers-Williams and Cornel West.
