Evelyn M. Simien

Evelyn M. Simien obtained her B.A. from Xavier University of Louis iana, and received both her M.A. and Ph.D. from the department of political science at Purdue University. She holds a joint appoint ment in political science and African American studies at the Univ ersity of Connecticut, Storrs. She currently teaches African Amer ican politics, Black Leadership and Civil Rights, and Black Femini st Politics. The recipient of research grants from Purdue Univers ity, Harvard University, and the University of Connecticut, her mo st recent article, "Black Leadership and Civil Rights" appears in the October 2003 volume of PS: Political Science and Politics. She also has articles forthcoming in such peer-reviewed journals as Social Science Quarterly, the Journal of Black Studies, Women and Politics, and Political Science Quarterly. Currently working on a book titled, Black Feminist Voices in Politics, Professor Simien has received best paper awards from the American Political Science Association and the Southwest Political Science Association. She also has a book chapter in The African American Political Woman: A Reader, soon to be published by Rutgers University Press.
