FAST LESLIE IS
DEFUNKED
[currently on extended hiatus -- updates here, when and if]
Fast Leslie and the Sin City Horns is a 10-piece band (usually) featuring a rhythm section of guitar, bass, keyboards and drums, a percussionist (that's the "usually" part), two lead vocalists, and a horn section of trumpet, tenor sax and baritone sax. We play a lot of classic R&B of the 60's and 70's: Sam and Dave, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, Jackson Five. (Think of the Commitments or the Blues Brothers.) Then we throw in anything that our instrumentation and musical taste inspire us to play - tunes by Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, Chicago, Steely Dan, Elvis Costello, even They Might Be Giants. And tons more, naturally.
In case you're wondering, our name comes from the rotating Leslie speaker cabinet (also check out this page about the Leslie sound ), whose effect can be heard in much of the music that we play. The speaker rotates at two speeds: slow and fast. Neither of our singers is named Leslie. If your name is Leslie, sorry for giving people the wrong idea (unless it's not the wrong idea). The "Sin City Horns" part was proposed by the previous horn section as an alternative to "...plus horns."
