Excerpts from "Incendiarism of the Riot: Estimate of Losses," New York Times, Saturday, July 18, 1863

 

The following list, compiled by Fire Marshal BAKER, comprises all the principle losses by fire growing out of the riot. The total damage by the incendiaries during the four days, commencing on Monday, is estimated at $400,000.

MONDAY, July 13 ....

9:20 P.M. No. 62 Roosevelt-street -- frame dwelling, occupied by colored people. Damage $100

TUESDAY, July 14 ....

5:03 P.M. Nos. 73 and 75 Roosevelt-street. Two dwellings occupied by colored families. Totally destroyed. Damage $3,000...
