REVIEW SHEET FOR THE SEVENTH QUIZ, TUESDAY DEC. 2, 2008
The 20-minute quiz will consist of one identification and one essay. (No multiple choice, this time). To prepare, go over your lecture notes and the essays and documents in chapter 14 of C & B, as well as documents 13.3 through 13.5. Also, look back over the materials that were covered by the previous quiz.
Identification. Two of the following terms will appear on the quiz. You will be asked to write about one.
Short Essay. One of the following questions will appear on the quiz. You will be asked to respond by writing a short essay on the back of your test sheet (and another sheet, if necessary).
Opportunities for urban newcomers . The African American population of Detroit rose sharply in the 1950s, 1960s, and became a majority in the 1970s. The Hispanic population of Los Angeles rose sharply in the 1980s and 1990s, and is now estimated to have become a majority. Compare and contrast the economic situation that each group of urban newcomers encountered during its period of migration.
Compare three periods in the history of industry . Describe the most important considerations that affected the location of factories in the United States during the following three periods in history: 1800-1830; 1870-1900; 1950-1980. Why did industrialists locate their factories where they did? How did their decisions affect urban history?
