The recommended working environment for PETs is that created by the PETSHELL EXEC. The default PETSHELL screen looks like this:
)
Mouse-clicking on one of the yellow hotspots invokes an action associated with that hotspot. For example, suppose FileMan is clicked. A secondary menu containing file management tools pops up.
Commands can be entered on the command line at the bottom of the screen (in the example below, q rge). Commands entered on the command line (or a command associated with a hotspot) are reflected in the center of the PETSHELL window; mouse-clicking a previously issued command re-invokes that command.
Mouse-clicking on a PF key label (e.g., 2=Refresh) is equivalent to pressing the PF key. Color-coded messages are presented on the second line of the window.
Alternate PETSHELL definitions can be created to customize or personalize the environment in a number of ways. Selecting PF6 presents a menu of optional PETSHELL definitions.
And if the default color scheme is not quite right for you, you can change colors or color schemes.
