School of Business Administration Authentication Requirements

1- Access to library resources

Our most urgent need is to allow our Stamford and Hartford part-time student population and faculty to access library resources through the Internet from a non-UConn domain. These students (total of 1200) are evening MBA or Executive MBA students, some of which live in areas (such as New York state and some regions of Connecticut) that are not covered by our UConn PPP system. When they register for classes they pay fees that officially entitle them to all the UConn student resources. Among the various library resources, Lexis-Nexus is particularly important since it is used in several Business classes.

Regarding the above issue, it is important to consider an implementation that

  • Provides Authentication of Internet access that is not based on IP addresses;

  • Does not require a client software other than a web browser;

  • Can be immediately implemented. We can't afford to wait for a comprehensive u niversity-wide solution.

    2 - Controlling access to SBA resources

    We currently have 3 servers in Storrs and 3 servers in Hartford/Stamford that could benefit from some global authentication solution. By Summer 98 all these servers will be running Windows NT.
