ADSM PRINT SYSTEM TAPES

Overview

UCC regularly collects and summarizes system usage and performance data to assist in evaluating the suitability of current technologies and the need for upgrades or changes. A few of the daily reports are available through the Web.

The Daily Reports

ADSM Backups. Using a VM product called ADSM, the UCC backs up a number servers, microcomputers, and UNIX workstations to central disk and tape storage. Backups using ADSM will soon be available to non-UCC servers running Novell 4.x .

Printer Activity. Two central laser printers process a large print load for the University.

  • PRINTER5 is an IBM 3900 continuous forms printer.
  • PRINTER6 is an IBM 3829 duplex (two sided), cut sheet printer.
  • The Printer Reports list the number of pages printed by the two main printers for each hour of the day.

System Summaries. The System Summary reports present a very high level view of the work performed by the central VM and MVS systems. Included is information about central printing, tape mounts, and CICS transactions.

Tape Usage. The Tape Reports present daily snapshots of the cartridge tape inventory, including the number of tapes allocated to the tape pools, the number of scratch tapes, and the number of tapes currently stored in various locations.
