    17th c. Chinese K'ossu hand embroidered silk rank badges of a civil officer, 6th rank. Front 2 pc 11"x11.25", back 11.25"x11.75"
    The design shows the influence of three Chinese religions: 
    Taoism; The Sun, sand, ink stand and clouds.
    Confucianism: Clouds, scrolls, and inkstand.
    Buddhism: Water lily, conch shell, urn. bat, duck, good luck omen which also adorns the border. It is the mystic flyfot or swastika, a religious emblem found in primitive artall over the world and is the Buddist symbol of good luck.
