In the fall of 1998, The Dodd Center Library at the University of Connecticut in Storrs displayed a collection of textiles gathered by Nellie Gard. Nellie Gard was the head of the Home Economics Department in the 1930's and was a pioneer traveller and archiver of ethnic and historical textiles.

In September of 1997, the management of the enormous collection was passed on to Professor of Costume History and Design, Laura Crow. The Department of Dramatic Arts under the leadership of Professor Gary English has committed to the preservation and care of this valuable collection. The University of Connecticut Historical Collection is the largest study collection in New England emcompassing clothing, accessories and textiles from Coptic Egypt to present day and spanning the many nations of the world.

The following is a small sampling of the collection which will ultimately be displayed in its entirety via the World Wide Web for research scholars and students to enjoy.
