The MVS/ESA (Multiple Virtual Storage/ ESA) operating system runs as a guest operating system under VM. It is used for batch processing. MVS is used to run large programs, which use a lot of resources (CPU, memory, tape drives etc.) It is much cheaper to use than CMS. All programs for execution under MVS are sent from the CMS accounts, except remote sites using MVS.
