Withdrawal of Support and Gateways for NET3270

For several years, some users have been using a 3270 emulation package called NET3270. This package makes connection to the Enterprise Servers via communications gateways. Over the past few years, the University has systematically migrated to IP 3270-emulation packages, particularly TCP3270 and TN3270.

Technical support for NET3270 was withdrawn by the vendor in March of this year. Therefore,

• the University Computer Center will no longer make any new NET3270 connections;
• as of January 1, 1998, we will not support NET3270; and,
• effective July 1, 1998, the gateways supporting this package will be removed from service.

This announcement provides the University computing community sufficient time to migrate all NET3270-connected workstations to an alternate IP-connected service. Please consult with the University Computer Center Help Desk (486-HELP/4357) for assistance in converting to IP-based network services.
