INFORMATIONAL ITEM: Year 2000 Schedule

December 23, 1998

ATTENTION: Deans, Directors, Department Heads, and Other Interested Parties

In an effort to better position the University to address Year 2000 problems during the first few weeks of the Year 2000, we are planning to construct a calendar of "typical events." To accomplish this, we have started referring to key areas through which flow a lot of University business as "funnel areas." Offices such as Purchasing, Payroll, the Scheduling Office (Registrar), and Accounting are examples of offices that are central to many of the necessary processes occurring in the first few weeks of the Year 2000.

The approach we hope to follow is to:

  • identify the "funnel areas,"
  • identify events based on input from the "funnel areas", and
  • review this information with Deans and Directors to verify and add events.

We hope to complete this exercise over the next six to eight weeks. Once we have identified the key events, we expect to prioritize them, assess their impact on the University, and consider rescheduling events as necessary. The ultimate goal is to reduce the number of events which take place the last week of December and the first two weeks of January. By taking this action, we will free UCC and University staffs to give prompt attention to any critical problems which may arise.

If you feel your area qualifies as a "funnel area," please let Mac Toedt know by January 8, 1999. You can contact him at (860) 486-1414 or by E-Mail (toedt@uconnvm.uconn.edu).

Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
