Automated Telephone Directory Test System
Page 1 of 1
Voice Communications is currently testing an automated telephone directory in partnership with the Lucent Technologies / Octel Messaging Division. This directory is accessible through touch-tone telephones where the caller spells the last name of the person or spells the department name for which he is seeking a listing. When a match is found, the system plays back the name and telephone number to the caller. The automated directory will be available only during evening and weekend hours. During business hours, switchboard personnel will continue to answer calls directly. The date this test system will be started is Monday, June 21, 1999 at 5:00 p.m.
After spelling a person's name or department name, the caller hears one of two scenarios if there is a match found in the test system:
The caller is given the option to select the name or listen to the next name. For administrative and department listings, the caller can be transferred to the listed number. For all resident students, the caller must hang up and dial the number directly.
If there is no listing found (or for resident students who have unlisted telephone numbers), the caller is advised that there is no listing found.
The telephone listings for all administrative (faculty and staff) names are retrieved from the Human Resources database. This data is identical to the listings provided in the web page http://phonebk.uconn.edu and on the University's mainframe login screen option D, UCONNECT Phone/UCONN Email. Please go to either the web page or the mainframe screen to verify your telephone number is listed correctly. If there is a problem with your telephone number as listed, contact Human Resources at 486-3034.
The listings for both resident students and department telephone numbers originate from the Telemanagement System used by Voice Communications. If there is a problem with any department listing in the test system, please contact 486-0300
