Computer Center Mainframe System Software, Printer, and Future Changes

ATTENTION: Deans, Directors, Department Heads, and Other Interested Parties

The following software/printer changes will be made on the University Computer Center's IBM mainframe computer system the morning of May, 22, 1995. Questions may be directed to Instructional and Research Services, Mainframe Consulting in Room M038, telephone 486-0924. On or before May 22, 1995, details regarding these changes can be accessed by typing NEWS from the CMS command line.

Software Changes:

Printer Changes:

As stated in correspondence DDD0013 (Dec 20, 1994), the IBM 3800 printer will not be available to users after May 22, 1995. The replacement is an IBM 3900 printer, also a continuous-forms printer. An IBM 3829 cut-sheet printer has been available for some time now. For more information enter:

Note 1: Users of DCF and other Advanced Function Printing will be impacted by these changes. Note 2: Continuous form bond paper will not be available after May 1996. Thesis and other users of bond paper should migrate to cutsheet bond output on the 3829 printer.

Notice of Future Changes:

UCONNVM will not be a BITNET site after June 1996.

Fast batch compilers under MVS will not be available after August 1995. Current users of fast batch are urged to switch to regular batch mode execution. Compilers effected are:
